April 10
Today was really a rest day as we visited Winchester Cathedral and then Winchester City Museum. The cathedral is overwhelmingly awesome with so much to take in. The City Museum is one of the best small museums I have visited. It is on three floors, and really welcomes children. Interspersed with all the displays, there are stations with hands-on activities for children. The displays themselves are impressive and everything is very clearly labeled and explained. The museum holds everything from a huge model of 1870 Winchester, displays of artifacts from historic Winchester, and artifacts dating back to the Roman era. As I said, very impressive.

The city was really busy today; there seemed to be a lot more people about. It was also market day and there were many stalls lining the streets nearby. David and I just walked around town in the afternoon, and visited two bakeries. There are so many bakeries here! We went down by the river again and just enjoyed sitting in the shade, watching people, listening to the birds. I didn’t take many pictures today, I’m not sure why.

We did each take a nap today. Our bodies are still adjusting to the time change. Anyway, we are eager to get on the trail tomorrow. The forecast is for near 70 degrees and sunny. After that it looks like some clouds and rain may be moving in, but we are prepared for the weather.
