Our last day walking in England did not disappoint! The weather was beautiful once again, the birds and lambs serenaded us, the trail was varied, and we arrived at our destination with no hurrying along.
I started my day with a short solo walk around the area of our B&B, looking at all the old buildings. The market hall is just across the street from Badger Hall. Built in 1627, it is still used as a market place and in fact, was being used when we arrived there on Monday. The oldest house in Chipping Camden is just down the street. It is hard to get a picture of it, but it was built around 1380! The pub where we had dinner last night was built to house the stonemasons building the church, also in the 14th century. The houses and buildings are all from different centuries, but they are all being used. The owners of Badger Hall live on the premises and have run the B&B for thirty years. Karen said you have to love it to live there, and the people who do live there obviously love it.

We headed out of town about nine o’clock on some lesser-used trails. We had lots of ups and downs, but the elevation gain for the entire day was less than 1000 feet. We found ourselves in the little village of Blockley and stopped at a cafe and the village shop. In the shop, I learned that Blockley is where they film the tv series, Father Brown. It’s not one of my favorites, but David likes it. Now I’ll really have to watch it to see if I recognize any of the locations.

After our stop, we again were going up and down, but the afternoon went very quickly.

We arrived back at the Redesdale Arms, where we started our Cotswold Round, about 2:00. Our rooms were ready so we were able to check in early. After showers and some dawdling, David and I went out again. It was market day here in Moreton, but by the time we went out, alll the stalls were closing up. Business hours in these little villages are very interesting. Most of the shops close up at three or four o’clock.
Tonight we will have a celebratory dinner here at the pub and then repack everything for going home. We all will be traveling on our own. John and June leave on an early train and we leave at 10:55. Nancy is leaving later to spend a couple of days in Oxford. It has been a wonderful trip, but David and I are ready to head for home!
